Lip filler has been a hot topic of conversation at Vesper in Chicago as aesthetic treatments have been more accepted in the general community.  This mostly stems back to the experience and outcome of the clients who are getting treatments done.  There are many questions surrounding lip filler that can be explained by our experienced providers Michael Sheehan PA-C and Juan Carlos Delgado RN LE.

Question: What are lip fillers?
Answer: Lip fillers are injections that add volume to your lips.  Lip fillers consist of manufactured Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is a natural occuring substance in your body.
Question: Why would I get lip fillers?
Answer: There are many reasons individuals seek out lip fillers.  This could be someone who wants to add a little plump or extra structure to their lip, someone who has lost volume in their lips due to aging or someone who has lip lines.  This could also be someone who wants to fix some asymmetry in their lips.  Each treatment is customized and the best way to know if you are a good candidate would be coming in for a consultation!
Question: How long do lip fillers last?

Answer:  Lip fillers can last anywhere from 6-12 months, depending on your age and how fast your body metabolizes the filler.  Some individuals may need more volume and come back at 3-6 months to continue to build their lip shape and structure.  It is important to understand that building a lip takes time and that we do not want to do too much at once.
Question: Does it hurt and will I be swollen?
Answer: Lip filler can be a little painful, however we do use a topical numbing cream to help make the procedure much more comfortable.  Swelling can happen after any procedure, so make sure you do not have any events coming up in the week after your procedure.  Some things that can help prevent swelling is avoiding alcohol, aspirin or any NSAIDs 7 days prior to your injection.  Things you can do after to decrease swelling include icing the lips, taking an antihistamine and avoiding foods high in salt.
Question: When will I see the results of my lip filler?
Answer: You can see the results of your lip filler immediately, but remember that your lips can remain swollen for up to 2 weeks.  Filler takes time to integrate and settle into your lips.  Little lumps and bumps are normal for the first few weeks, but if they remain, you can return to your provider and they can smooth them out for you.
